Yes. Your HERS Rater will explain the testing process before work begins and answer any questions you may have during the visit.
How long does the inspection take?
Inspection times vary depending on the size of the home and what features are being tested. Most visits take approximately 1–3 hours.
What areas of my home will be accessed?
The rater may need access to:
HVAC equipment
Ductwork and vents
Thermostat
Circuit breaker panel
Attic, crawlspace, or roof (when required)
Do I need to prepare my home?
For accurate test results, you may be asked to:
Close all windows and exterior doors
Turn off bathroom fans and clothes dryers
Ensure access to all required areas
Will photos be taken?
Yes. Photos may be taken of testing equipment and inspected areas as part of the documentation process.
Will I receive a report?
Yes. You will receive a copy of your report by email after the inspection is complete.
If the verification was requested by a contractor, the contractor will also receive a copy.
What are CF3R forms and who completes them?
CF3R forms are compliance documents tied to your building permit.
They are completed and submitted by the HERS Rater to the CHEERS Provider, which works directly with the building department.
Will there be a quality assurance visit?
Possibly. The CHEERS Provider performs routine quality checks to ensure testing accuracy. If your home is selected, you may be contacted in the weeks following your inspection to schedule a brief follow-up visit.
